Beyond Green Symposium

Presentation & Moderator

Last week I talked and moderated at Beyond Green: Pace Yourself: an annual symposium on the future of fashion hosted by Circle Economy and Amsterdam Fashion Institute.

Beyond Green uses the collective power of students and industry to tackle critical issues in the fashion system. New and established minds will come together to push the boundaries of what we know, and what we dare to imagine.

The symposium will explore the pace of the industry, and challenge our polarized conceptions of 'fast' and 'slow' fashion. Do these terms refer to speed or quality? Does 'fast' necessarily mean unsustainable? How can 'slow' turn a healthy profit? Must we choose between them?

Alongside Elin Larsson (Director of Sustainability Filippa K) and Gwen Cunningham (Project Manager Circular Textiles Program at Circle Economy), I spoke about the future of fast fashion.
I believe speed is not the (main) problem, a lack of transparency and awareness is. In my presentation I showed how the industry could speed up to a faster and more exciting pace in the next 15 years while increasing its sustainable at the same time.

What made Beyond Green unique was the interaction between Industry and education. Some inspiration to kick off the day is excellent, but the afternoon workshop sessions, where industry and students meet to tackle sustainability issues together, is what sets it apart”

I was honoured to be part of this great event that managed to bridge the gap between slow & fast, industry & education and inspiration & practice. The audience was really engaged in the presentations and I believe we connected lots of interesting ideas in the workshops. I’ll definitely join again next year!
